THE NEED
The skill of our Tool and Die Makers cannot be bought, it has to be developed. As an industry leading manufacturer of precision powertrain components utilizing specialized in-die spline forming technology, it is a challenge to support our business needs with skilled and specialized workers.
THE PLAN
- Our corporate initiative has been created to address the combined needs of the American and Canadian operations. A collaborative 3 year corporate-sponsored program combining classes for American and Canadian employees.
- Schooling at a college in London, Ontario, by instructors who instruct Canadian trades.
- One week per month of schooling, three weeks per month of on-the-job learning.
- Level I and II of the program is specialized to include and reference TransForm-unique drawings, parts and metal-working processes.
- Level III is a TransForm only ‘advanced’ module focused on the troubleshooting and maintenance of TransForm advanced metal spline forming processes.
- Utilize Sterling Heights facility for instruction and/or practical on the job training for EDM, Mazak CNC lathes and other TransForm.
- Specific equipment utilized in the industry.
- 6,000 hours of experience with verifiable skills.

The Benefit
- Two year program to complete education
- 100% of the schooling paid by TransForm
- Wages are paid to take schooling
- Paid accommodations while out of country
- Relevant employment provided while not in school to reinforce the learning process and content
- Employed at TransForm rotating through related areas including the Tool Room while not in school
- Certification as TransForm Die Maintenance & Forming Specialist
- Upon completion, employment in the tool room with starting rate equivalent to entry level Tool Maker
The Audience
- High school students graduating and seeking the work stream
- College students graduating from Technician or Technologist programs
- Internal candidates who meet the educational requirements and pass pre-qualification testing
The Expectation
- Must be able to travel to Canada
- Must apply and be pre-tested for the program
- Participate in a competitive selection process
- Must continually meet minimum requirements to stay in the program
- Must commit to three year work extension after certification or repayment of schooling is required
